A collaboration with Sebastian Isaku
This video installation illustrates the possibilities and boundaries of intercultural communication.
A casual conversation at the reception is documented. At first glance, a seemingly constructive dialogue turns into complete absurdity. Visual transmission and sound, facial expressions and intonations of the speakers report an intact, ordinary conversation. The Russian and Romanian subtitles reveal the meaning of the replicas of each of the interlocutors. Thus, the conversation is a gap between the concepts of “speak” and “language”. Separate fragments provide meaningful segments, but in the dialogue, these individual per se replicas of the speakers dissolve the meaning
of the conversation itself. Thus, the only meaningful pillar of this communication is material space — the reception.
