Ideal
Video installation
5 Projectors 16 mm, 1min |2009|
The video installation “Ideal” is an attempt to “… catch the hundredth of a second in which film aesthetics manage to win the viewer’s affection.” Five different segments projected separately from each other create the unity of the installation idea.
The minimalism and brevity of the image of the stopped footage appeal to
the media memory of the viewer and evoke numerous associations from
films of different times. Thus, the viewer resorts to the practical use of
the history of cinematography.
Despite the reduction of fictitious cinema in one footage, the scenes are
filled with an atmosphere of farewell and loneliness, abandonment.
The work is both a homage to the morpheme of the film and an attempt
to unveil the secret of the seductive magic of the movie. The installation
is dominated by the idea that the image in the movie serves as a
projection in life. This moment is shown especially pragmatic in the scene where the woman is sitting in the cinema. She unconsciously repeats the
gestures of the protagonist on the screen. This moment captures the
influence, the mimetic impulse, which the image has on the viewer.
